What identification is accepted?

Current or not expired for more than three (3) years:

 *  Driver’s license or ID card issued by any state

 *  U.S. Passport or an officially recognized passport of a foreign country

 *  U.S. Military ID card

 *  ID card issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe

 *  A current document issued by the federal government or a state, county, or other local government which contains a person’s photograph

 

Can I get a birth, death or other government issued CERTIFIED document notarized?

No, a notary public does not have authority to create or certify copies of official records or documents.  However, a notary can notarize a copy of offiicial documents affirming that the document is an exact duplicate/copy.  The difference between the two is a TRUE copy verses a CERTFIIED copy. 

 

Can you help me decide what type of notarization I need? 

A notary cannot advise you about what notarization you need.  The most common notarizations are acknowledgements and jurats. 

 

The purpose of an acknowledgment is to ensure that the document signer is who they claim to be and has voluntarily signed the document.  They often are needed for documents concerning assets such as deeds, mortgages and deeds of trust.​​​​​​

 

The purpose of a jurat is for a signer to swear or affirm that the contents of a document are true.  It can also be known as an affidavit, a verification on oath or an affirmation.​  would a only the government agency who created the document and provided a seal on it can
